1. Please share your observations, experiences, or comments on the rules that have had the most impact on you, whether those rules were from the Church rule book or from the Business rule book. Please explain your answer.
The rule that impacted me was Rule 7 “The means and the end”. The common nuclear-church concept that “It doesn’t matter what I do; it only matters who I am.” The concept of that statement is that ‘being’ is much more important than ‘doing’; who I am is more important than what I do. Which I do not agree!
I am strongly for the extended-church rule in that such a statement is pure nonsense. Christians should not separate what one is from what one does. Jesus said, “By their fruits you will know them”(Matt. 7:20).
2. On page 123 of Church in the Workplace, Dr. Wagner writes: “I am confident that when Marketplace Apostles are recognized for who they are, we will see new strategies and actions that will result in major, beneficial changes in cities and nations in the world.” Church in the Workplace was published 15 years ago; please describe some of the “major, beneficial changes in cities and nations in the world” that have occurred in the past 15 years. If you are unable to identify any such changes, why haven’t such changes taken place?
I’ve been living in Colorado since 1973. I became a Christian in 1980. Since then I have not seen major beneficial changes in cities and nations in the world. However, I’ve noticed that more accountability to Christian charity organizations – World Vision, Compassion, Samaritan Purse and so on. I’ve also notice that the people perception of the need for intercessors for politics and business particularly has changed.
I agree with Dr. Wagner in that when Marketplace Apostles are recognized for who they are, we will see new strategies and actions that will result in major, beneficial changes in cities and nations of the world. I pray that those new strategies and actions do not separate churches-nuclear, extended.
