APA Title Page (7th Edition) | Template for Students & Professionals
The APA title page varies between student and professional papers. Below are guidelines for formatting your title page according to APA 7th edition standards.
Student Title Page (7th Edition)
For student papers, include the following information, double-spaced and centered:
- Paper Title
- Write an informative, striking title that summarizes the topic of your paper. Center and bold it, three or four lines down from the top. Use title case capitalization (capitalize major words, except small words such as articles and short prepositions).
- Author Name
- Write the author’s full name (first name, middle initial(s), last name). Leave a blank line between the title and author name.
- Institutional Affiliation
- List the department and institution where you are studying.
- Course Information
- Include the course number and name, instructor name, and due date of the assignment on separate lines under the institutional affiliation.
Professional Title Page (7th Edition)
For professional papers, follow these guidelines:
- Paper Title
- Format the title as you would for a student paper.
- Author Name
- List authors in order of their contribution. For multiple authors from different institutions, use superscript numbers to indicate affiliations.
- Institutional Affiliation
- Specify the department and institution where the research was conducted.
- Author Note
- Include an author note on the bottom half of the page. Center the label “Author note” in bold. The note can include ORCID iD, affiliation changes, conflicts of interest, acknowledgments, and contact information, presented in separate paragraphs.
- Page Header
- Student Paper: The page header includes only the page number in the top-right corner.
- Professional Paper: Include a running head (abbreviated title) in all capital letters, up to 50 characters, along with the page number.
Including Images on the Title Page
Images are generally not included on an APA title page, as it is meant for information rather than decoration. If you choose to include an image:
- Ensure you have permission from the image creator.
- Include a note directly below the image acknowledging its source, starting with “Note.” (italicized).
